Path of Exile 2 leaves early access on December 11

Path of Exile 2 leaves early access on December 11, Grinding Gear Games announced during gamescom’s Opening Night Live in Cologne. The studio confirmed the game launches “as a fully free-to-play action RPG” — the same model Path of Exile 1 has run on since 2013.

The launch brings the Duelist, revealed in a new trailer at the same show. GGG describes it as a long-awaited class, and it is the headline addition to the roster at 1.0.

Players can register at pathofexile2.com/register for release updates and what GGG calls “exclusive milestone rewards on the road to launch.”

What we do and don’t know

GGG gave the date as “December 11 (PST)” and no clock time. That matters more for this game than most: an ARPG launch is a race, and the hour a league opens decides whether people book the evening off. Expect the exact time in a later post.

The announcement also does not say what happens to early-access characters, whether 1.0 opens with a league alongside it, or how the current 0.5.4 cycle ends. None of that is stated, so none of it is recorded here.

What changes on this site

Path of Exile 2 is one of the four seasonal ARPGs that will never carry daily or weekly checklists — those games run on seasons, not resets, so their progression lives at /games/path-of-exile-2/season/ instead.

A 1.0 launch is exactly the event that structure exists for. When GGG publishes the league details, the season page gets rebuilt against them.
