RuneScape: Dragonwilds — Progression Route
Six regions from your arrival in Brynmoor to Kuldra, the God-Eater — in the order the game gates them, keeping your equipment a tier ahead of each region.
What this guide is
A run-along checklist, not an article. RuneScape: Dragonwilds has no daily or weekly reset — progress is permanent for a save, so nothing on this page clears itself.
Dragonwilds rewards establishing a reliable crafting, food, storage and equipment loop before pushing into harder areas. The early priority is always the same: survival, then tools, then weapons, then armour, then food, then crafting, and only then exploration.
The route follows the six regions in order — Brynmoor, Ghornfell, Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach, Umbral Sands, and the Version 1.0 sixth region, the Scorned Wilderness — then finishes with the Scorned Wilderness Raid to Kuldra and the postgame. Keep your equipment a tier ahead of the region you are entering; walking into a harder area in outdated gear is the most common way to die.
Returning from Early Access? Umbral Sands was the old endgame, so your 1.0 starting point is roughly Stage 6. Prepare your old endgame gear, then move straight into the Scorned Wilderness and Regicide.

Walkthrough
Verified for Version 1.0.1✓ Verified in-gameStage 1 — Brynmoor: arrival and your first base29
First steps — survive and get a foothold0 / 11
Do not rush deep into the world. The game rewards a reliable crafting, food, storage and equipment loop before harder areas. The early priority is always survival → tools → weapons → armour → food → crafting → exploration, and there is no reason to grind skills high in the opening hours.
- Complete the opening tutorial objectives
- Explore the starting area of Brynmoor
- Gather wood, stone, fibre and foodYour first resource loop
- Craft your first gathering tools
- Craft a basic weapon
- Claim a bedSets your respawn point
- Build a starter shelter and establish storage
- Build your initial crafting stations
- Learn basic cooking
- Start Rune MysteriesAn early quest chain
- Begin Dragon SlayerThe main story quest — you continue it across every region
Your first Brynmoor base0 / 6
You do not need a permanent castle yet — a small, efficient base serves better until higher-tier construction unlocks. Keep stations close together: you will return with large material hauls, so efficiency beats aesthetics this early.
- Set up a claimed bed, material storage and food storage
- Add a cooking station
- Add wood processing and ore processing
- Add an equipment crafting station and keep repair supplies
- Add rune storage
- Set aside farming space and leave room to expand
Begin farming0 / 5
Food requirements rise as you advance. The long-term goal is to reduce your dependence on random food gathering.
- Collect seeds while exploring rather than ignoring them
- Establish farming plots and learn tilling and watering
- Begin producing compostUpdate 1.0.1 added the Ultra Compost Bin and a Large Compost Bucket with more capacity, so upgrade both once you reach them
- Set up repeatable food crops
- Keep surplus seeds in storage
Early equipment — Starter → Bronze → Iron0 / 7
Equipment is one of the biggest determinants of survival. The general progression is Starter → Reinforced → Bronze → Iron → Steel → Mithril → Adamant → Rune, with Ranged and Magic branching into their own sets. Never enter a significantly harder region wearing several outdated pieces.
- Replace your improvised equipment
- Craft a complete armour set
- Upgrade your gathering tools
- Keep a reliable melee weapon
- rangedExperiment with RangedSince Update 1.0.1 each bow type has its own special attack — Shortbow Rapid Fire (three quick shots, switchable between targets), Longbow Power Shot (a charged long-range stagger) and Crossbow Heavy Bolt (a charged bolt that applies Enchanted effects)
- Experiment with Magicmagic
- Keep healing food available and repair before every expedition
Stage 2 — Ghornfell: to Velgar15
Explore Ghornfell0 / 8
Ghornfell is your first substantial jump in difficulty — expect stronger enemies and more dangerous exploration.
- Enter Ghornfell and establish a forward camp
- Place a nearby respawn point
- Locate the major resource deposits
- Continue Dragon Slayer
- Progress toward Iron equipment and upgrade your tools
- Explore the region's points of interest and vaults
- Discover regional recipes
- Build up a supply of stronger food
Defeat Velgar0 / 7
Velgar is one of your first major progression bosses — the point your character graduates from the introductory progression. Version 1.0 makes parrying particularly valuable: a successful parry restores a large amount of stamina and opens a powerful follow-up.
- Equip a complete current-tier armour set and weapon, fully repaired
- Bring strong healing food and backup food
- Bring ammunition if using Ranged, or runes if using Magic
- Set a nearby respawn point
- Practice dodging, blocking and parrying
- Defeat Velgarboss
- Collect Velgar's rewards and continue Dragon Slayer
Stage 3 — Fellhollow: to Imaru19
Enter Fellhollow0 / 10
Fellhollow introduces more advanced survival mechanics — Withering, soul-rift hazards, mounts and farming progression.
- Enter Fellhollow and learn how Withering works
- Locate cleansing pools
- Establish a forward base
- Collect Steel-tier resources and craft Steel equipment
- Hunt Lesser Green Dragons
- Craft Green Dragonhideranged
- Craft Splitbarkmagic

- Locate Vannaka and complete his quest progression
- Unlock the Terrorbird and learn mounted travel

Dowdun Reach shifts progression toward heavily defended humanoid areas and stronger combat, with Black Knights and Blue Dragons.
- Enter Dowdun Reach and establish a forward staging base
- Begin Black Knight's Fortress
- Complete the regional quests

- Bring a backup weapon and a Ranged or Magic alternative
- Set a nearby respawn point
- Defeat the Black Knight Titanboss
- Collect its unique rewards and finish major Dowdun progression
Establish your main base0 / 5
By now a tiny starter base is inefficient. Build a larger permanent headquarters — and organize materials early, because late-game crafting needs significantly larger quantities.
- Build dedicated armour, weapon and blacksmithing areas
- Add wood processing, ore processing, cooking and brewing
- Add a farming area and rune and food storage
- Add mount access and trophy displays
- Organize your materials early
Ongoing — Sanguine Urns and Agility0 / 4
Start both habits now; both pay off at the endgame. Do not grind Agility early — you accumulate substantial XP naturally while exploring, and the permanent health from urns matters most in late-game boss fights.
- Search each new region for Sanguine Urns and activate every oneEach unique urn permanently raises your maximum health
- Track missing urns and return for hard-to-reach ones later
- Discover and complete regional Agility coursesoptional
- Earn Gold Medals and regional gilded cape rewardsoptional
Stage 5 — Umbral Sands: the previous endgame24
Enter Umbral Sands0 / 9
Umbral Sands was the previous Early Access endgame and remains a major progression checkpoint — Adamant tier, desert hazards, and the run-up to Kalphites and the Fight Caves.
- Enter Umbral Sands and establish a desert staging base
- Learn desert weather and how heat affects exploration
- Identify shade and shelter locations
- Continue the main quest
- Gather Adamant resources and upgrade your tools

- Bring runes if using Magic or ammunition if using Ranged, and a backup weapon
- Complete the Fight Caves and defeat Fuzanboss

- Complete Crucible encounters and obtain upgrade materials
- Upgrade a preferred weapon into a strong boss weapon
Stage 6 — Scorned Wilderness: the Version 1.0 content23

- Stock high-quality healing food and a strong primary weapon
- Activate several Sanguine Urns and carry useful Vestiges

- Explore the Hub and establish available infrastructure
- Locate Runite, Luminite and Magic Wood deposits
- Hunt Black Dragons and gather the new crafting materials1.0
Face the new 1.0 enemy roster0 / 1
These are substantially more dangerous than earlier-region opponents — use them as a test of whether your build is actually ready for Kuldra.
- 1.0Fight the new high-level enemies and treat them as a readiness checkGoblin Thug/Poisonshot Archer, Garou Exile/Lightning Berserker, Rotsworn Reanimator, Skeletal Blightshot, Black Knight Crusader, Blazing Black Knight, Stormpact Demon, Black Dragons
Gather Runite and Luminite0 / 2
Runite becomes one of your most important 1.0 resources.
- Mine Runite Ore and Luminite Ore and establish efficient farming routesBring an Adamant Pickaxe or better — do not mine with outdated tools
- Stockpile and process both resources
Craft your 1.0 endgame gear0 / 5
Rune (melee), Black Dragonhide (Ranged) and Ancestral (Magic, new in 1.0) are the primary 1.0 upgrades. Pick your style rather than building every set.
- Craft Rune armour — Helmet, Platebody, Platelegs, ShieldMelee and general combat
- Craft your preferred Rune weaponsPrioritise your combat style; you do not need every weapon before Kuldra
- rangedCraft Black Dragonhide — Coif, Body, ChapsNeeds higher-level tanning infrastructure
- Craft a Magic Shortbow or Longbow, or a Rune Crossbowranged
- magicCraft Ancestral equipment — Hat, Robes, Robe Legs, Wand, StaffWands emphasise mobility and fast casting; Staff, heavier damage
New materials and endgame utility skills0 / 4
Version 1.0 expands several skill trees. Prioritise abilities that improve survivability and raid efficiency. Update 1.0.1 added perks worth planning for: Death From Above! (attack from just above double-jump height to slam down, scaling with your weapon — Windstep counts), Ammo Recovery and Greater Ammo Recovery (a chance to recover arrows from slain enemies) and Low Blow (Ranged hits to the legs apply Hamstrung; Tiny and Colossal enemies are immune).
- 1.0Track and stockpile the new 1.0 crafting materialsRunite/Luminite Ore, Magic Wood, Black Dragon Hide, Runic Powder, Disordent Residue, Harmonised Compound, Ground Dragon Tooth, Vis Fibers, Draconic Vis Wax, Vis Cloth. Disordent Residue drops from Raid enemies — some gear progression continues after raid attempts begin
- Unlock Attack abilities — Sprint Attacks, Enchant Weapon: Water, Tempest ShieldWater-enchanted melee adds sustain
- magicUnlock Magic abilities — Runic Refund, Enfeeble, VengeanceRunic Refund improves rune efficiency
- Unlock Home TeleportRunecrafting unlock — returns you to your claimed bed after a rune cost and cooldown
Optimize your build0 / 3
Choose a primary combat identity before entering the raid. Since Update 1.0.1 a Ring and an Amulet each have their own slot, so fill both — and note the Amulet of Glory was toned down in the same update. Rune arrows and bolts now out-damage Adamant (4.9x against 4.2x).
- Commit to a Melee, Ranged or Magic identity and gear it fullyOptimising every style at once usually wastes materials
- Slot defensive and offensive Vestiges for your chosen style
- Carry a secondary weapon for specific encountersHybrid setups stay viable
Stage 7 — the Scorned Wilderness Raid: to Kuldra16
Prepare for the raid0 / 5
Kuldra is not simply another open-world boss — the Scorned Wilderness culminates in a full raid encounter. Treat preparation accordingly.
- Equip Rune / Black Dragonhide / Ancestral armour and a strong endgame weapon
- Carry a backup weapon, useful Vestiges and spare equipment
- Bring your best healing food in multiple stacks, plus runes, ammunition, combat buffs and repair materials
- Confirm Sanguine Urn upgrades, stamina management, dodging, parrying and Visceral Attacks

Complete Regicide0 / 3
Regicide is the major story progression into the final confrontation. Do not rush it without improving your equipment — the surrounding progression is meant to prepare you.
- Begin Regicide and complete its prerequisite objectives
- Explore the required Scorned Wilderness locations and fight the required enemies
- Progress the raid storyline to unlock the final Kuldra encounter1.0
Enter the Scorned Wilderness raid0 / 3
If you struggle heavily before reaching Kuldra, treat it as an equipment or preparation warning — farm the region and improve your build rather than forcing repeated attempts. Since Update 1.0.1 the raid’s obstacles and enemies respawn on every reset or new run, so a repeat attempt is a full run, not a cleared path.
- Enter the Raid and defeat the raid enemies
- Collect Disordent Residue and learn the encounter mechanics
- Progress the raid objectives and reach Kuldra1.0
Defeat Kuldra, the God-Eater0 / 3
The primary story endpoint of Version 1.0. Your first Kuldra kill is completion of the game's main launch-era route.
- Learn Kuldra's mechanics and survive the encounter
- Defeat Kuldra, the God-Eater and complete the Kuldra Sagaboss
- Claim the first-kill rewards — Dragon Kiteshield and Commemorative Cape

- Farm Dragon armour — Full Helm, Platebody, Platelegs, Med Helm, Shieldoptional
- Farm Dragon weapons — Scimitar, Crossbow, Kuldra's Wrathoptional

- Complete the Sanguine Urn collection for maximum permanent health
- Complete every Agility course and earn all Gold Medals and gilded capes
- Push your skills toward level 99Order: primary combat → mining/woodcutting/gathering → artisan utility → Runecrafting → farming/fishing → secondary combat → Agility → the rest. Much XP accrues naturally while pursuing other goals
